Metaphors and Stories for Coaching
Hours: 9 AM to 5 PM
For: Experienced coaches or trainers, or managers with experience coaching their teams.
Learning through stories and metaphors is so basic to human experience that some thinkers argue that to be human is to tell stories. Our greatest leaders are also our most powerful storytellers: from teachers to CEOs, they know that stories and metaphors are a way to minimize resistance and optimize impact.
Experienced coaches know that listening to stories is also a strong and effective way to identify strategies and leverage points in clients. They are good at getting clients to tell their life stories and at using those stories to define where a coaching relationship needs to go next.
In this one day workshop, take time to reflect on the interplay between the stories you tell and the stories you hear. Sharpen your ability to respond to the stories your clients are telling you, to identify useful stories, and to respond to challenges with stories and metaphors. Learn a little about the neurology of metaphors and more about how to recognize useful stories and to deliver them effectively.
Optimally, each participant will arrive with one story you have used or would like to use and one challenge that you think might be handled with a story or metaphor.
